Town offices begin move to new center
CHAPEL HILL -- Town services -- including sanitation, building and street maintenance, and landscaping -- are beginning to move to the Town Operations Center on Mill House Road just north of Eubanks Road. The facility will become the new home to the Public Works and Transportation departments, which are currently located off Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Municipal Drive. Planning began after the town was required to leave its current site that had been leased from UNC, now moving forward on plans for Carolina North. The $51.6 million Town Operations Center project includes four large buildings, new water and sewer lines and extensive improvements to Mill House and Eubanks roads. Note the new address and phone number for the Public Works Department 969-5100 (if this number is not operating during this interim moving period, try 969-5111).

Wildflowers are more than just pretty faces. At the April meeting of Zumbro Valley Audubon Society, Joel Dunnette will talk about the value of these pretty faces. Dunnette, past president of the Minnesota Native Plant Society, speaks at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Quarry Hill Nature Center, 701 Silver Creek Road N.E., Rochester. There will be refreshments and a gathering at 6:45 p.m. The program is free and open to the public. Artists' clearing house due ZUMBROTA -- Several regional artists are coming together to offer great deals on original art at the third annual Artists' Clearing House at Crossings in Zumbrota. Starbucks is turned down
Proposals to open up a coffee house on a borough retail park have been thrown out by councillors after they were slammed by nearby residents. The plans for Kew Retail Park, rumoured to be for a Starbucks, saw nearly 200 objections filed and a petition of more than 1,000 names. Councillor Serge Lourie, council leader and Kew councillor, said the development would have been too much for the park. .
