Horticulture paradise
Despite the climate and microclimates, the Puget Sound region is, according to garden-nursery owner Steve Smith, "a horticulture paradise." The underpinnings of a garden that will thrive and survive starts literally from the ground up, says Smith, who co-owns Sunnyside Nursery in Marysville with wife Pauline. Whether you are an experienced gardener or a new bud, start with dirt if you want to see green. "My sage advice: The first year, don't spend a penny on plants," Smith says. "Put your money in soil. Get your ground prepared. Then the plants are the fun part. If you spend the time to get the soil in good condition, you can grow just about anything." .
On Travel Writing
Travel and writing may be somewhat spiritual pursuits, but Travel Writing alone is strictly business. To travel alone is more lonesome than writing, but group travel is mostly pretend.Perhaps we should pack it in altogether in pursuit of peace of mind? Well, funnily enough, it's not likely to happen in this world of cheap travel and paid writing cos most of us aren't nearly good enough at either to stop -- or we still have something half decent to say, somewhere half decent to go -- and many of us still stubbornly cling to a life where one can fund the other.***The travel in this writing takes place in Johannesburg, or Jozi, the old, gold, abused boomtown gone bust. Jozi hits the pits hard and rises high around the edges. She's a daylight city, a grit-and-bare-it city, and anyone's after dark.
Weeds in Your Landscape Beds? Not If You Use the Right Landscape ...
KNOXVILLE, Tenn., March 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Nothing is worse than putting in the time and effort on your yard and landscaping only to deal with weeds. Not only do weeds look unappealing, they can cost you hours of frustration and hard work. To view the Multimedia News Release, go to: http://www.prnewswire.com/mnr/dalenproducts/27179/ One solution is choosing the right landscape fabric - one that's designed for weed control, say experts at Dalen Products, makers of Weed-X and Weed- Proof. The primary reason for using landscape fabric is for a non-chemical, multi-year solution to weed problems in landscaped mulch beds or other areas around the yard. The key to a good landscape fabric is having the right balance of weed control and permeability. That includes limited openings to stop weeds from above the fabric, and a material that matches the soil's ability to absorb water.
