Balis famed resorts and clubs like the Como Shambhala at Begawan Giri, Amanusa, Bali Golf & Country Club all feature extraordinary tropical gardens designed by a certain Karl W. Princic.

Landscape architectural designer Karl W. Princic is considered somewhat of an enigma in his adopted homeland of Bali in Indonesia.

He has been in Bali since 1990 and now lives in an ultra-modern home set amidst Balinese cottages and padi fields in the sleepy hollow of Sidarkya near Sanur. He shares his newly-built home with his Indonesian wife and keeps mainly to himself.

Living Colour Landscape’s solution for water absorption

Sydney's average rainfall is normally about 1200mm and with Level 3 Water Restrictions well and truly in place and here to stay Sydney landscapers are looking for creative garden designs to make the use of the rain that falls to the ground on the properties.

Landscapers in Sydney need to create opportunities for suburban garden designs that allow the maximum water absorption benefit for the gardens and lawn areas by slowing down the runoff from paths and driveways to take advantage of every precious drop when it does rain. Instead of the traditional let's concrete or pave the side paths and the driveway at Living Colour Landscapes their team of landscapers consider these areas as potential areas for water absorption.

When designing garden paths excavate into the soil sub grades and install agricultural pipes, immersed in gravel and flowing to the lawn and garden areas.

Modify landscape, enjoy the wildlife

There is still time for residents who urged Long Branch to kill "herds" of Canada geese to educate themselves. ("Residents urge city to eliminate geese," March 10.) First, anger and abuse solve nothing.

Fertilized, manicured lawns near water lure geese. These landscapes are not indigenous to the Northeast and mimic nesting conditions further north. The weed-whacked, fertilized, chemically treated ideal sought by many waterfront property owners is responsible for attracting geese.

Ecologically, these are degraded landscapes. With the help of a qualified landscaper, they can be modified. And the geese will move on.

Health fears are misplaced. The country's foremost federal researchers have stated unequivocally that geese are not a health threat. However, an epidemic of fear and loathing of native wildlife everything from neighbors' bird feeders to a raccoon that dares set foot on "private property" appears ascendant.
