Know your weeds before the battle
The coming of spring brings a flush of growth that encompasses more than St. Augustine or centipede lawns. Perennial weeds begin growing again and annual weeds pop out of the ground. Seeing these invaders will cause you to start searching for that bottle of herbicide to begin the battle. Before you select your weapon of choice, you first have to know your weeds. At least, in the broadest of terms. To be successful at getting your lawn under control, you have to know what you're fighting. Weeds fall into three major groups: broadleaf weeds, grassy weeds and sedges. Each usually requires a different mode of attack. Broadleaf weeds include dollarweed, Florida betony, spurges, henbit, chickweed, oxalis, etc. These types of weeds have leaves with netted veins and often have showy flowers.
Griffin Announces First Quarter Results
NEW YORK, April 12 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Griffin Land & Nurseries, Inc. (NASDAQ: GRIF) ("Griffin") today reported a 2007 first quarter operating loss of ($1,749,000) on total revenue of $4,586,000 as compared to a 2006 first quarter operating loss of ($2,042,000) on total revenue of $3,689,000. Griffin reported a 2007 first quarter net loss of ($1,288,000) and a basic and diluted net loss per share of ($0.25) as compared to a 2006 first quarter net loss of ($1,502,000) and a basic and diluted net loss per share of ($0.30). The lower operating loss in the 2007 first quarter reflects higher operating results at Griffin's Connecticut and Massachusetts based real estate division, Griffin Land, principally reflecting gains of approximately $500,000 on property sales completed in the 2007 first quarter and improved results from leasing operations.
Bridge design team looking forward to creating "new and exciting ...
THE River Mourne will no longer prove an obstacle to its separated communities, according to the team behind the winning designs for two new pedestrian bridges in the town. Construction will get underway soon at least one of the new pedestrian and cycle bridges, part of the Strabane 2000 project, which will, according to the designers, "make a mark on the landscape and the architecture of the town." The decision to award the project to Roughan and O'Donovan comes at the end of an international competition which involved a selection panel as well as members of the public having the opportunity to cast their vote as to which pair of bridges would be chosen from the shortlisted entries. Joe O'Donovan, founder of Roughan and O'Donavan, is proud that his Dublin-based company has been chosen to carry out such a landmark build.
